Your rope matters – join in!
If you have an old climbing rope that you would like to donate over the winter, we would love to include its story in this unique installation.

The rope is the strongest social element, and this is what we want to explore in our new MMM Corones project:

In spring 2026, a new art project will be unveiled at the Messner Mountain Museum Corones, created in collaboration with South Tyrolean artist Hubert Kostner. An installation based entirely on an element of traditional mountaineering — the climbing rope — will grow inside the museum over several levels.

To this end, we are now collecting used ropes – ropes that have already experienced heights, paths, emotions, and personal chapters. These can be provided to us by visitors as well as mountain lovers and experienced climbers. Each submitted rope will become part of a large collective artwork.
To interact with the museum respectfully and without structural interventions – in the true spirit of mountaineering – the ropes will be secured with Friends.

In parallel, we will conduct interviews with climbers on the topic of 'rope'. These conversations will form the basis of a film that will be shown in the museum cinema in the future. We also plan to create an interactive area where visitors can become part of the installation using rope and knots.

Hubert Kostner, born in Bressanone in 1971 and now living in Castelrotto, explores shifts and transformations in his work, offering subtle and often ironic reflections on our perception. Everyday materials from his surroundings are freed from their original meanings and given new significance – as can be seen with the ropes in this project.
