Guided tours & important information
Museum Tour
The museum is a mirror of the world of Messner’s childhood with the Geisler peaks and the central buttress of the Heiligkreuzkofel (the most difficult climb of his life). The subterranean museum building shows the development of modern climbing; how mountain climbers gradually dared to approach the great mountain faces; how they continuously looked for new and bigger challenges; the 250 years of progress with regard to equipment; triumphs and tragedies, great successes and deadly defeats on the world’s most famous peaks – the Matterhorn, Cerro Torre, K2 – and the depiction of this activity, however contradictory it may seem.
Introductory talks are available for groups and school classes on request.
