Juval: The mountain as a myth and mirror of the soul.

MMM Juval is located in the Messner family’s residence castle high above the Vinschgau. Here, at a place with 1.500 years of history, the museum is dedicated to the spiritual approach to the mountain: myth, symbolism, sacredness. The location is private, the collection personal. And yet universal.

PEAK OF THE SUMMIT AND THE GODS.

At the heart of MMM Juval stands the sacred mountain: as a projection surface, as a spiritual place, as a cultural heritage. The exhibition showcases collections, images and artefacts relating to those mountains that hold special significance for people around the globe: Kailash, Fuji, Ayers Rock, Ararat, Olympus. The collection includes Tibetika, masks from five continents, frescoes, sculptures, an adventure library and meditative spaces. The storytelling is not linear but atmospheric. Juval is not a conventional museum. It is an invitation to question your own understanding of the mountain.

"It is not the highest or the most beautiful mountains that are the 'sacred' ones, but those peaks that have exerted a strong influence on the locals for millennia. Elevations that suggest a view and symbolise the otherworldly. Just like Juval Castle."

What you see

A Renaissance chateau with a modern feel. Masks, manuscripts, deities, art. Sacred mountain sanctuaries from around the world. And a castle that becomes a symbol in itself: for pausing, for wonder.

What you experience

Juval is a place of power, a path inward. The collection is personal, the access open. Those who immerse themselves discover more than objects: connections. Between worldviews, cultures and inner landscapes.

What you take with you

The sound of the wind making the Himalayan cedars dance. Signs that don’t need to be interpreted. A sense of the unnameable. An intuition: the mountain is more than just a destination.
