Corones: mountaineering in its purest form.

At eye level with the sky. Reduced to the essentials. At MMM Corones, mountaineering is not celebrated, but questioned.

What ropes, hooks and hammers reveal about attitude.

The MMM Corones is dedicated to traditional mountaineering – its history, equipment and evolution. It is located on the Kronplatz at an altitude of 2,275 metres and forms the final piece of the six-part museum series. The exhibition shows what it means to face the mountain: not in pursuit of fame, but in confrontation with oneself. Pioneering spirit and philosophy meet a spectacular view, which is part of the narrative.

"As a storyteller of traditional mountaineering, I neither want to judge nor dramatise; for me, it’s about distilling experiences, about something that is also my own concern—the 250-year-long confrontation between mountain and human."

Reinhold Messner

What you see

A spectacular structure by Zaha Hadid, which seems to slide into the rock like a thought into the landscape. Concrete, lines, silence. The exhibition displays equipment, art, words, relics – embedded within spatial axes that guide the viewer’s gaze towards the mountains. Architecture and mountaineering converge.

What you experience

Concentrated silence. Clear lines. No distractions. No noise. Just you, the stories of alpinism and the panorama. The museum does not demand, it offers space. For curiosity. For reflection. For your own perspective.

What you take away

A thought that lingers. A spark of respect. A glance that has changed – in terms of performance, courage, and yourself.

visitor quotes.

"This is where Alpine history is made, and in a breathtaking setting at that. The spectacular architectural style alone is worth seeing."
Claudia Schnabel - Lang
"The architecture is very impressive, as is the exhibition about the history of mountaineering. The views from the large windows and the balcony are particularly outstanding."
Madlen Richter
"The architecture alone is an impressive experience. The exhibition tells gripping stories and conveys a profound sense of mountaineering, with its highs and lows."
Dietmar Leitner
"This museum is a work of art in itself. The very way it is built and furnished is so impressive that the actual exhibition temporarily takes a back seat. Every line is perfect, no matter which side of the museum you look at it from."
