What you see
Traditional architectural styles from Nepal, Peru or Morocco. Everyday objects, garments, tools, ritual items. Film documents, interviews, voices. And a castle that unites the past, present and a broad perspective.
MMM Ripa is dedicated to the mountain peoples of the world. At Schloss Bruneck – once the summer residence of the Prince-Bishops of Brixen – the museum shows how people have lived in the mountains for millennia: with pride, determination, and adaptability. The gaze extends to Asia, Africa, South America and Europe. And inwards.
Ripa comes from Tibetan: "ri" means mountain, "pa" person. The MMM Ripa provides insight into the diversity of everyday life among 25 mountain peoples: their way of life, rituals, religions, and economic systems. How they shape their environment, adapt to high altitudes – and feel the effects of changes such as climate change particularly strongly. The exhibition includes art, authentic living situations, objects, and voices. It is a place of encounter, not a display case. Here, you not only learn about the world but also about your own perspective.
“Here, doors open to reveal more than 20 mountain cultures from all five continents. Doors tell stories: of myths, secrets and the fears of the people behind them. They bear witness to the pride, craftsmanship and hospitality of those people. And they are a symbol of connection rather than division.”

A journey across continents and cultures. Not a perfect order, but diversity. No explanatory text, but encounters. And the wonder at how many solutions life has found at high altitudes.
A sense of how much is possible with little. How much attitude lies in the everyday. And that connection often arises from much smaller things – and not through grand gestures.
