When the Path Becomes the Stage

What happens when theatre leaves the traditional stage behind?

back to overview

The Compagnia (S)legati is an Italian theatre duo dedicated to the fusion of theatre, mountains and nature. Their stage can be a mountain hut, a meadow, a climbing garden – or a path along which actors and audience move together. Nature is not merely a backdrop here; it becomes part of the performance.

Their work centres on stories about people and their relationship with the mountains: about departures and adventure, friendship and courage, about boundaries and the search for one’s own path. This creates a unique form of theatre that invites not just watching, but walking along.

Theatre that stays in motion

That’s exactly the idea behind TeaTrekking – a fusion of theatre and trekking. The audience doesn’t remain seated in the auditorium; instead, they set off on the journey together with the actors. Along the way, they stop at various locations: stories are told, scenes are performed, and impressions are gathered.

On 26 August 2026, the Compagnia (S)legati will be visiting MMM Firmian with their TeaTrekking. Sigmundskron Castle becomes the stage: over the course of a roughly two-hour tour, the route takes you through the historic walls and the surrounding landscape of the museum. At four stations, theatre and storytelling moments unfold, while two actors accompany the group and make the journey itself part of the performance.

It is this very connection that makes it special: MMM Firmian also tells the stories of people who set out on journeys, of their relationship with the mountains, and of the search for new boundaries. With TeaTrekking, these themes are not just told – they are experienced together. Step by step, in a place where history and the mountain world have been intertwined for 20 years.

Sometimes a story doesn’t need a traditional stage. Sometimes it begins with the first step.
