Touching the stars

The mountain does not appear as a fixed form, but as a trace in space. In the works of Brigitte Schwacke, fragile landscapes emerge from lines, unfolding between drawing and sculpture. Open to light, movement, and perspective, they invite us to perceive the mountain anew – not as a destination, but as an experience.

The Exhibition

The mountain does not appear here as a closed body, but as a trace in space.

The special exhibition at MMM Firmian presents works by the artist Brigitte Schwacke, whose body of work moves between drawing, sculpture and architecture.

In collaboration with Tom Fährmann, a subtle narrative of being on the move unfolds – not as a destination, but as a continuous motion.

The line as a starting point

With fine metal wires, Schwacke draws graphic structures into space, creating mountain forms that cannot be pinned down: light, permeable, open to light, views and movement.

Touching the stars

At the heart of the exhibition is the installation "Touching the stars". Lines condense into imaginary landscapes and then dissolve again. The mountain appears here less as a place, but rather as an idea of a journey – shaped by approaches, detours and moments of pause.

Tracks and traces

In the "tracks and traces" series, movement itself becomes visible. During hikes through the volcanic landscape of Lanzarote, drawings emerge from graphite traces, created in the rhythm of walking. Black-and-white films by Tom Fährmann accompany these works and add another dimension: an interplay of space, body and landscape.

The artist

Brigitte Schwacke, born in Marl, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Sir Eduardo Paolozzi. She lives and works in Munich and Lanzarote.

Her work focuses on expanding drawing into space: with fine metal wires, she creates lines that permeate architecture and form fragile structures between drawing and sculpture. Her works mark transitions and open up connections between space, light, and movement.
